The Fortress of Cairo, also known as the Fortress of Saladin, was constructed during the Islamic era in medieval times in Cairo, Egypt. Built by Saladin and later enhanced by Egyptian rulers. The Citadel was utilized as a government seat and residence for rulers for approximately 700 years, starting from the 13th century until the 19th century. Its strategic location on a Mokattam Hills promontory, close to Cairo’s center, offered an excellent vantage point for overlooking the city and dominating its skyline. During its construction, it was considered one of the most extensive and impressive military fortification projects. Presently, the Citadel is an officially preserved historical site that comprises museums and mosques.
