The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization is the sole museum in Egypt that provides a comprehensive exploration of the various historical eras of Egypt. The Mummies Halls are considered the most treasured exhibit in the museum. The global community has been astounded by the Pharaoh’s Golden Parade, which involved the transfer of 22 Royal Mummies from the Old Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square to their new permanent home in the National Museum of Civilization.
The collection of mummies includes those of King Ramses the Second, Queen Hatshepsut, King Thutmos the Third, and Queen Ahmos Nefertary. The Royal Mummies Hall was specifically created to exhibit the mummies from ancient Egypt. The design and placement of the mummies underground are intended to recreate the experience of walking through the Valley of Kings, where many of the mummies were originally buried.
Around 150 artifacts, comprising both mummies and their coffins, were on display at the Royal Mummies Hall. Notably, this exhibition marked the first instance where every mummy was showcased adjacent to the respective coffin they were discovered in. These mummies are currently situated in designated chambers beneath the primary hall, representing the symbolic “underworld” where the royal mummies were originally unearthed.
The main focus of the Museum is to showcase the significant accomplishments of Egyptian civilization through a central and permanent exhibition. This exhibition is divided into six different sections, each highlighting a specific theme. These themes include the beginning of civilization, the importance of the Nile River, the development of writing, the structure of the state and society, the various aspects of material culture, and the beliefs and thoughts of the Egyptian people. Additionally, there is a separate gallery dedicated to the display of royal mummies.
