The tour begins with a visit to the library of Alexandria, which is considered to be the largest library worldwide, currently holding an astonishing eight million books. You will be able to explore the open court that displays the statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy the First, who was found submerged in water close by. Ptolemy, the original founder of the library, now watches over it from outside, overseeing the new library. While on the tour, you will also have the chance to view a range of free museums and collections, such as The Saadat Museum, as well as the ancient and modern art collections on display.
Afterwards, the vehicle will transport you to explore the church of St. Mark, which is considered the oldest church in Africa. Then, you’ll proceed to stroll around the historic downtown area of Alexandria, observing the traditional markets selling various goods, such as Egyptian sweets. The buildings in the area showcase a combination of baroque, Italian, and French architectural styles.
You can choose to have your midday meal at two different restaurants: the contemporary Fish Market restaurant or the classic establishment known as Mohamed Ahmed’s.
Your tour to Alexandria will continue by passing through Mansheya’s oldest market. Interestingly, the market also hosts an astonishing gold market where people purchase their wedding and engagement jewelry. Afterward, you will travel to visit the most beautiful and extensive mosque in the city, Abu El Abbas Mosque, and right outside it is an old amusement park where children can play on antique rides and enjoy candy floss. Just across the way, the corniche and the ancient harbor can be found, where you can watch men fishing and traditional fishermen construct nets on old fishing boats.
The tour will proceed, presenting the exterior of Qaitbay Castle, located on the same site as the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, which is one of the seven wonders of ancient times. This castle is an extraordinary attraction and an excellent spot for photos.
The vehicle will transport you to Montaza’s gardens. Along the way, you can make a brief stop at King of Mango to grab a freshly squeezed juice from Alexandria’s drive-thru and snap a photo at the Unknown Soldier memorial in Alexandria. The scenic coastal route to Montazah Palace and Gardens spans approximately 25 km and includes the old harbor of Alexandria, where 7000 underwater monuments were discovered.
