Day 1: Alexandria Trip
I will collect you from your hotel in Cairo, and we will proceed to Alexandria. The 3-day tour to Alexandria and Siwa Oasis will commence at the renowned library of Alexandria, which is currently the largest library globally, housing a staggering 8 million books. We will explore its expansive open court, where you can observe the statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy the First, which were discovered submerged in the vicinity. Our knowledgeable guide will provide insights on the library’s architectural structure from the exterior, and there will be opportunities for photo opportunities along the way of a 3-day tour to Alexandria and Siwa Oasis .
Explore the Roman Amphitheater of Alexandria, where you can admire the sunken monuments of Alexandria that were unearthed beneath the East harbor of the city. Afterward, the car will transport you to the renowned St. Mark’s Church, which holds the distinction of being the oldest church in Africa. Following this visit, you will have the opportunity to explore the historic city center of Alexandria. As you venture through the old downtown area, take in the sights of traditional markets bustling with a wide variety of goods, including authentic Egyptian confections.
Many people believe that the El Nabi Daniel Mosque is associated with the tomb of Alexander the Great. According to popular belief, the mosque houses the remains of the respected scholar and revered teacher Prophet Daniel, as well as those of his companion Sidi Lokman al-Hakim, a religious storyteller. Continue your tour by walking through Mansheya’s oldest market area and observing the traditional women’s markets called “zan’et elsetat.” These markets, characterized by their narrow streets, offer a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region. Additionally, make sure to visit the gold market, where you can find exquisite jewelry for weddings and engagement ceremonies. The next stop on the itinerary is a visit to the most beautiful and largest mosque in the city, known as the Abbo Elabbas Mosque. Adjacent to it, you will be amazed to find an ancient amusement park filled with vintage rides, where kids have a delightful time and indulge in cotton candy.
Across from this location is the corniche and the historic harbor, where one can observe antiquated fishing vessels, fishermen in action. Keep going to glimpse the exterior of Quaitbay Castle, erected on the very spot where the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria once stood, recognized as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Afterwards, the car will transport you to Montaza Gardens. Along the tour, you will have the opportunity to make a brief, optional stop for two minutes at the Mango King’s location, where you can enjoy a refreshing drink of freshly squeezed juices from Alexandria’s drive-thru. Additionally, you can also take a moment to take a photo at the memorial to the Unknown Soldier of Alexandria.
Day 2: Alamein and the Old City of Siwa
Begin your tour by driving to Alamein and stopping at Al Alamein, where you can experience the historical significance of a major World War II battle. Continue your journey to the beautiful bay of Marsa Matrouh, where you can have lunch on the Mediterranean Coast. Afterward, proceed to Siwa, which is approximately a 5-hour drive from Alamein. Upon arrival, visit the Old City of Siwa, also known as Shaly, and enjoy dinner with the Bedouin people. Spend the night at the Siwa Paradise Hotel (or a similar accommodation).
Day 3: Dead Mountain, Temple of Alexander, and Safari by 4×4
Start your day with breakfast at the hotel and then head to the Dead Mountain, also known as Gabel El Mouta. Here, you will have the opportunity to explore various tomb sites, such as SI Amon, MSW Isis, and the Crocodile Tombs. Afterward, make your way to Gara Cave, a remarkable natural formation created by rain erosion in the Eocene limestone millions of years ago. This cave holds significant historical value as it served as a habitat for prehistoric humans, particularly during the late Neolithic period.
